Atomic Bomb Survivors Speaking in NJ

Nuclear war is rejected in Church teaching because the use of nuclear weapons cannot insure non-combatant immunity and their destructive potential and lingering radiation cannot be proportionate in a meaningful sense.”

Bishop Howard Hubbard on Behalf of the USCCB in a letter to Secretary of State Clinton

Two survivors of the atomic bomb blast in Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be with us in NJ around the tragic anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan. I urge you to go and hear their testimony

Friday August 7th, 7 PM at Sacred Heart Church 1719 Ferry St., Camden

Sunday August 9th 1 PM Unitartian Fellowship in Morristown

Monday August 10th 7 PM Lakeland Unitarian Fellowship in Wayne

Tuesday August 11th 7PM Islamic Center of Morris County in Rockaway

As North Korea is testing nuclear weapons and Iran may very well be working on developing its own nuclear arsenal it is as urgent as the time of the height of the cold war that we work for nuclear disarmament. (For resources on Nuclear Disarmament from Pax Christi USA click here )

President Obama, in his Prague speech outlined a plan for a nuclear weapons free world. The first step toward that goal would be for the US to ratify the UN Test Ban Treaty. Please contact your Senators to encourage them to support ratification of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

You can also call on your senators to accelerate the effort to eliminate nuclear weapons by:

· committing to nuclear abolition as the only true path to U.S. security and operationalizing that commitment within the National Security Strategy of the United States;

· aggressively pursuing a U.S./Russian agreement to dramatically reduce both nations’ arsenals, including a commitment to negotiations that involve all nuclear weapons states and that will agree to total eliminating all arsenals within a time-bound framework;

· reducing the alert status of U.S. strategic nuclear forces and seeking a reciprocal reduction of the alert status of Russian strategic forces;

· seeking and securing Senate ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty by the end of this year.
